Who can join the LC | ECT?
All full time residents of Laurel Canyon are eligible to join the Team. The minimum age for Radio Operators is 16.
Are only radio operators needed?
No. The team needs Runners, members willing to help with communication on foot, or by the use of personal vehicles.
Is the equipment expensive?
Not at all. A pair of FRS radios costs about $80, and with spare batteries and some safety gear the cost to join as a radio operator is under $100.
Do I have to know how to operate a radio?
No. Operating an FRS radio is very simple, and the Team will train all members on proper use of their radios in volunteer emergency response.
Will I need an FCC license?
Use of FRS radios does not require a license. Higher power GMRS radios do require a license, but there is no test required.
How much time will it require?
There is no mandatory commitment of time required.
